Bhumjaithai Party Navigates Coalition Formation Amid Political Uncertainty

Bangkok: Bhumjaithai Party spokesperson has referred discussions with Kla Tham on joining the government to the party leader. The spokesperson deferred the responsibility of discussions between the party leader and secretary-general and "Kla Tham" regarding joining the government to the Pheu Thai party. They noted that politics is unpredictable and expressed understanding of supporters' dissatisfaction, highlighting the uncertainty of the situation and many concerns surrounding the campaign. They emphasized the need to focus on the future and work for the country.

According to Thai News Agency, Ms. Nan Bunthida Somchai, prospective MP for Ubon Ratchathani and spokesperson for the Bhumjaithai Party, discussed the progress in forming the government, stating that currently, seven political parties and nine prospective MPs have expressed their support for Mr. Anutin Charnvirakul as Prime Minister. These parties include the Economic Party, the New Democracy Party, the New Party, the Ruam Jai Thai Party, the Thai Sap Thawee Party, and the Ruam Palang Prachachon Party. Recently, the Miti Mai Party was contacted, adding to the support for Mr. Anutin as Prime Minister.

Ms. Nan further explained that Mr. Anutin announced discussions with political parties would occur in a step-by-step manner, with many discussions already initiated. Regarding whether the Kla Tham Party will join the government, she noted that Mr. Anutin and Mr. Chaiyanok Chidchob, the party's secretary-general, have been assigned to coordinate discussions.

Speculation about the inclusion of the Pheu Thai Party and its impact on Kla Tham Party's participation remains, with Ms. Nan clarifying that approaches are being made methodically. As the political party with the highest number of prospective MPs, a joint press conference will be held to discuss support for Mr. Anutin as Prime Minister.

Addressing concerns about potential coalition dynamics, Ms. Nan emphasized that political negotiations are unpredictable. Currently, all parties have prospective MPs awaiting certification from the Election Commission. Following certification, parliament must elect a Speaker within 15 days. The party leader has committed to discussing government formation with all parties.

When questioned about addressing potential negative perceptions of certain coalition parties, Ms. Nan stated that the recent party meeting focused on congratulating elected members and preparing for future parliamentary work. Negotiations will be handled by the party leader and secretary-general, with outcomes presented to the executive committee.

Regarding dissatisfaction among Bhumjaithai supporters with Pheu Thai's inclusion, Ms. Nan urged patience, emphasizing the uncertainty of the post-election period and unresolved campaign issues. She expressed understanding of all supporters' sentiments and highlighted the importance of moving forward to demonstrate the government's commitment.

The coalition parties supporting the Bhumjaithai Party include 193 Bhumjaithai MPs, 74 Pheu Thai MPs, with additional support from Palang Pracharath Party (5 seats), Economic Party (3 seats), New Party (1 vote), Ruam Jai Thai Party (1 vote), Thai Sapthawee Party (1 seat), People's Power Party (1 vote), New Dimension Party (1 vote), and New Democratic Party (1 vote), totaling 281 votes.
