Bannang Sata: A bomb exploded last night in front of a convenience store in Bannang Sata District, Yala Province, resulting in the death of one villager and injuries to eleven others, including seven military personnel.
According to Thai News Agency, the explosion occurred on Highway 410 (Yala-Betong), near Village No. 2, Bannang Sata Subdistrict, approximately 300 meters from the 301st Operations Base. After receiving reports of the incident, police officers, local government officials, and rescue workers from the Hilal Ahamar Foundation promptly arrived at the scene. They discovered damaged vehicles, including pickup trucks and sedans, and several injured police officers and local residents. The injured were immediately transported to Bannang Sata Hospital for emergency medical treatment.
Initial investigations reveal that the explosion took place while police officers were patrolling the area around the convenience store. The blast resulted in injuries to seven officers and four local residents, along with the tragic death of one villager. In response, officials have secured the site to ensure safety and have deployed Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) officers for further inspection.
Authorities suspect that local insurgents orchestrated the attack in advance of a scheduled visit by former Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra, who serves as an advisor to the president of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN).
