Burmese Driver Crashes Into Motorcycle Vendor While Evading Police Checkpoint

Samut Prakan: A young Burmese man transporting migrant workers sped through a police checkpoint and crashed into a motorcycle vendor, resulting in serious injuries. Early this morning, the Samut Prakan Foundation was alerted to a car accident involving significant injuries at a gas station on Phraeksa Road, located in the Phraeksa Subdistrict of Mueang District, Samut Prakan Province.

According to Thai News Agency, the incident occurred around 02:15 a.m. when a motorcycle with a sidecar, used for selling fried meatballs, was struck and severely damaged. The impact scattered the vendor’s belongings across the road. The injured individual, identified as 40-year-old Mr. Suthani, was found unconscious and in critical condition. He was promptly transported to Samut Prakan Hospital for medical attention. The driver, Mr. San Min Oo, a 24-year-old Myanmar national, fled the scene in a black Toyota Fortuner but was soon apprehended near the Bangpoo Industrial Estate.

A witness reported hearing a loud crash while sitting in a nearby shop. Upon investigating, he discovered the injured vendor lying in the road and observed the vehicle speeding away with police in pursuit. The witness quickly summoned rescue workers to the scene.

Pol. Lt. Col. Chakkraphong Khunphrom, deputy chief of Samut Prakan City Police Station, stated that the incident began when officers established a checkpoint on Sukhumvit Road near Sengiam Pittayanukul School. The black Toyota Fortuner breached the checkpoint, driving toward Phraeksa Road. Upon reaching a U-turn at the gas station, the vehicle collided with the motorcycle vendor while traveling against traffic. The driver continued against traffic before entering Bangpoo Industrial Estate, where police intercepted the vehicle on Soi 5B. Inside the Fortuner, authorities discovered 12 foreign workers, who are now being questioned as part of the ongoing investigation. Legal proceedings are expected to follow.
