Cold Air Mass from China Set to Intensify Weather Conditions Across Thailand

General

Bangkok: Another strong cold air mass from China is set to impact Thailand from January 26 to 28, resulting in colder weather and strong winds across the country.

According to Thai News Agency, the Meteorological Department has reported that the high-pressure area or cold air mass currently covering the upper part of Thailand and the South China Sea is weakening, leading to morning fog and a slight rise in temperatures. However, the North and Northeast regions will continue to experience cool to cold weather. The Central region, including Bangkok, the East, and the upper South, will see cool mornings, while mountaintops and hilltops will have cold to very cold conditions with some frost. Residents are advised to protect their health in the cold and be cautious about potential fires due to dry conditions and poor visibility caused by fog.

The northeast monsoon continues to affect the Gulf of Thailand, the South, and the Andaman Sea, with waves reaching 1-2 meters in the lower Gulf of Thailand. Sailors in these areas are advised to exercise caution.

Furthermore, the upcoming cold air mass from China will bring even colder weather and strong winds from January 26 to 28. The strengthened northeast monsoon over the Gulf of Thailand and the South will increase rainfall in the South, with heavy rain in certain lower areas. The Gulf of Thailand and the Andaman Sea will experience stronger waves, especially in the lower Gulf of Thailand, where waves may reach 2-3 meters and exceed 3 meters in thunderstorm areas.

During this period, poor air ventilation and weak winds will contribute to high levels of dust accumulation, potentially impacting air quality.

The regional weather forecast for January 23, 2025, predicts cool weather with morning fog and slightly rising temperatures across various regions. Bangkok and its vicinity will see temperatures ranging from 19-23 degrees Celsius to a maximum of 32-35 degrees Celsius, with easterly winds of 10-15 km/hr. The Northern region will experience cool to cold conditions with temperatures between 13-18 degrees Celsius and a maximum of 30-33 degrees Celsius, along with cold to very cold weather on mountaintops. The Northeastern region will see similar conditions with temperatures ranging from 12-17 degrees Celsius to a maximum of 30-33 degrees Celsius. The Central and Eastern regions will also experience cool mornings with temperatures between 16-22 degrees Celsius and a maximum of 31-35 degrees Celsius.

The Southern region (East Coast) will have cool mornings with light rain in some areas, particularly in the lower parts, and waves reaching 1-2 meters from Songkhla downwards. The Southern region (West Coast) will be mostly cloudy with cool mornings and waves less than 1 meter high offshore.
