Hua hin: The Director-General of the Department of Provincial Administration presented identification cards to students with the initial G and urged the expedited resolution of their personal status issues.
According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Narucha Khosasilvilai, Director-General of the Department of Provincial Administration, presided over the event aimed at resolving the personal status issues of students with initials starting with "G" in Hua Hin District, Prachuap Khiri Khan Province. He presented identification cards to these students, who had been registered and granted legal personal status. The event was attended by Mr. Sittichai Sawatsaen, Governor of Prachuap Khiri Khan Province; Ms. Preeda Kongpaen, National Human Rights Commissioner; Mr. Keen Sum, Senior Protection Officer, United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) in Thailand; along with central and regional government officials and representatives from relevant agencies. Ms. Rattaya Ajaharn Pueyporn, Deputy Governor of Prachuap Khiri Khan Province, delivered a report at the event.
Mr. Narucha emphasized that addressing the issue of students whose names begin with the letter G is a crucial mission for the Department of Provincial Administration. This mission is being prioritized in alignment with the compassion and concern of Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn. Although these children have received educational rights, they still lack access to fundamental rights such as healthcare, employment, and legal protection. Establishing a legal status and identification number will enhance their protection and access to basic rights. Approximately 200,000 students nationwide have names starting with the letter G, and the Department aims to expedite this process by integrating efforts with regional offices, targeting a completion by the end of fiscal year 2026.
The Department of Provincial Administration has revised guidelines to include children of migrant workers in educational institutions, following a Cabinet resolution from October 28, 2025. Concrete measures have been implemented since March 2026 to ensure these children receive legal status, identification documents, and access to their rightful rights, while also refining the national database of stateless persons. This is regarded as a significant mission for national security.
In Prachuap Khiri Khan province, there are 2,981 students with names beginning with the letter G. Specifically in Hua Hin district, efforts are being accelerated to register and issue identity cards to 677 individuals who are not Thai nationals.
The Director-General confirmed that the department will continue to address issues concerning personal status and nationality, with a focus on reducing inequality, creating equality, and providing opportunities for all children to grow securely. The goal is to ensure a good quality of life and enable them to become significant contributors to the country's future development. "Having an identity" is considered the foundation of human dignity. The director also extended gratitude to all district registration offices for their cooperation in this initiative, making them "reliable districts."
