EGAT Unveils Smart Energy Solution to Propel Thailand Towards Net-Zero Energy Goal

Bangkok: The Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (EGAT) is spearheading an initiative called "Smart Energy Solution" to bolster renewable energy and power security, paving the way for new investments and steering Thailand towards achieving net-zero energy by 2050.

According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Tidet Eiamsai, the Deputy Governor for Power Plant and Renewable Energy Development at EGAT, has outlined strategies aimed at ensuring energy security and supporting Thailand's 2050 Net Zero transition. The focus is on green business initiatives that provide comprehensive energy management solutions tailored to businesses. Key components include cost reduction, increased efficiency, and fostering the use of clean energy sources such as solar farms, rooftop solar, and floating solar.

In addition, EGAT is advancing energy storage systems, offering battery installation services, and implementing carbon emission monitoring. These efforts are supported by the ENZY Platform, an intelligent energy management system that utilizes IoT and AI processing to achieve 5-10% electricity savings. EGAT is also expanding its electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure, with 305 EleX by EGAT charging stations and 155 customers currently using the BackEN management system. Plans are in place to extend cross-border services to Bhutan by the end of the year.

These initiatives enable EGAT to monitor electricity usage, production, and renewable energy consumption in various regions, facilitating more efficient management of the power system. This enhancement is particularly vital for data centers, a sector that Thailand is actively promoting to attract further investment. Overall, these measures are designed to reduce the risk of power outages and improve infrastructure efficiency.
