Bangkok: Mondol and Monthol, both former high-ranking officials, were not selected for positions on the new Election Commission due to unresolved cases with the National Anti-Corruption Commission.
According to Thai News Agency, the Senate recently approved Mr. Jirutt Visalvichit, the former Director-General of the Department of Land Transport, to serve as a member of the Election Commission (EC). However, another candidate, Mr. Monthol Sudprasert, who previously served as the Director-General of the Department of Public Works and Town Planning, did not receive Senate approval. The voting results showed 9 in favor, 102 against, and 57 abstentions.
The main reason cited for Mr. Monthol's rejection was a pending case under investigation by the National Anti-Corruption Commission (NACC). The case involves allegations from his tenure on the board of the State Railway of Thailand, where he is accused of improperly approving the use of railway land for a luxury condominium in the city center. The NACC is actively looking into these allegations.
