Emperor Naruhito Delivers New Year’s Address at Imperial Palace

TOKYO: Japan’s Emperor Naruhito extended heartfelt New Year’s greetings to the citizens of Japan and the global community, emphasizing hopes for a peaceful and prosperous year ahead. The Emperor’s address took place on Tuesday at the Imperial Palace in Tokyo, where he underscored the importance of overcoming challenges and striving for happiness worldwide.

According to Thai News Agency, the event featured appearances by Empress Masako and other distinguished members of the imperial family, including former Emperor Akihito and former Empress Michiko. This marked a significant occasion as former Emperor Akihito had abdicated in 2019, making public appearances less frequent.

The previous year saw the cancellation of New Year’s Day public meetings after a devastating earthquake struck northern Japan on New Year’s Eve, resulting in over 500 fatalities. This year’s address thus held particular significance as the Emperor sought to bring solace and hope to his subjects in the aftermath of past tragedies.
