Bangkok: A male inmate who escaped from Nonthaburi Provincial Prison by climbing over the prison wall has been recaptured. He claimed he wanted to visit his sick father.
According to Thai News Agency, the 40-year-old inmate, identified as Chuchai, was apprehended by police from Bang Mae Nang Police Station. He was found at 4:30 PM in front of a housing estate in Bang Mae Nang Subdistrict, Bang Yai District, wearing a red shirt and a baseball cap. Authorities have contacted Nonthaburi Provincial Prison officials to take custody of him and transfer him back to the prison.
Upon questioning, inmate Chuchai revealed that his escape was prompted by a desire to visit his father, who is suffering from kidney disease. He believed his father lived in an alley behind a temple near the prison. However, investigations revealed that Chuchai's father resides in Chonburi province, not Nonthaburi, and lives with his aunt due to the need for regular dialysis. This revelation contradicts Chuchai's claim that his father lived near the prison. It is believed that Chuchai was unaware of his father's relocation. Authorities are coordinating with the Department of Corrections to ensure his return to prison as per legal procedures.
The investigation into Chuchai's criminal record disclosed a long history of offenses, primarily related to drug possession, use, and theft. He has been imprisoned multiple times in various facilities, including Nonthaburi Provincial Prison, Pathum Thani Special Correctional Institution, Pathum Thani Central Detention Center, and Suphan Buri Provincial Prison. Additionally, he has five cases still pending in the judicial process.
