Exporters Rejoice! Trump Reduces Import Tariffs to 10%

Bangkok: The Thai National Shippers Council stated that Trump's reduction of import tariffs to 10% is positive for Thai exporters and advised them to quickly seek new markets.

According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Thanakorn Kasetsuwan, President of the Thai National Shippers Council (TNSC), commented on the US Supreme Court's decision to overturn President Donald Trump's import tariffs. He noted that the decision shows the US government still has a way out by using its presidential power to reduce import tariffs from various countries to 10%. This reduction decreases the import tariff burden on Thai exporters from 19%, enabling them to find new markets and reduce their dependence on exports to the United States.

Furthermore, this development is also beneficial to the Thai Ministry of Commerce, as it eliminates the need for additional conditions to comply with the US proposal during past negotiations to reduce import tariffs. Regarding the negotiation for tariff refunds, which may take a long time to file a claim within 150 days before the new US law comes into effect, this change will significantly reduce pressure on exporters and lower the cost of exporting to the US. Going forward, it will be necessary to redesign Thailand's supply chain to connect more countries.
