Investigations have revealed that perpetrators copy animal photos, fabricate tearful stories, and use psychological manipulation to trick victims into transferring money before disappearing, leaving behind only financial loss and disappointment.
According to Thai News Agency, the scam has been meticulously crafted to exploit the goodwill of animal lovers. The culprits post heart-wrenching stories and adorable images, which are often stolen from genuine animal rescue sites, to lure unsuspecting individuals into their scheme. Once a potential adopter shows interest, the scammers demand payment for transportation or other fabricated fees, only to vanish once the money is transferred.
Victims have reported feeling not only financially defrauded but also emotionally manipulated, as their genuine desire to help abandoned animals was exploited.
