Flood Relief Funds Deemed Sufficient but Additional Requests Possible

Bangkok:The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Interior has confirmed that the flood relief budget is currently adequate. In cases where additional funds are necessary, the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation (DDPM) has the ability to request more from the Budget Bureau.

According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Arsit Sampanrat, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Interior, addressed concerns about the adequacy of flood relief funds in light of 1.9 million households applying for compensation. He detailed that areas flooded before October 1, 2026, have already utilized over 2 billion baht from the 4.7 billion baht emergency budget approved by the Cabinet, which is considered sufficient for rapid relief. For areas affected after this date, relief will be managed under the National Disaster Insurance Scheme, with the Office of the Insurance Commission (OIC) and the DDPM responsible for transferring funds directly to households.

Nearly 300,000 households have already received compensation, and ongoing reviews by the DDPM and damage assessment officials aim to ensure a careful and complete response. In Bangkok, where flooded areas have caused significant hardship, urgent relief is particularly critical.

In the event the original budget proves inadequate, the DDPM can submit a proposal to the Budget Bureau for additional funding, following established procedures.
