Doi tao: Doi Tao Lake in Chiang Mai Province, the northernmost point of the Bhumibol Dam, has seen water levels rise, flooding agricultural areas and homes. However, it has become a popular spot for tourists to check in and stay overnight, boosting the local economy.
According to Thai News Agency, Doi Tao Lake in Doi Tao District, Chiang Mai Province, has seen its water level rise continuously, bringing the once-dry lake back to life. For the first time in over 10 years, the water level has risen so high that it has flooded the lake sign near the parking lot and the dried fish shop of a villager, forcing the villagers to move their shops to higher ground, nearly 50 meters from their original location.
The rising water levels have had a positive effect on the local economy, allowing raft restaurants to resume normal business and offer rentals for overnight stays. Boats are towed to the middle of the lake, attracting a lively crowd of tourists who come to stay overnight during the holidays.
Meanwhile, rising water levels have inundated a wide area of villagers’ agricultural land, with villagers predicting that the water level will rise further.
