Bangkok: The culprit who stole 160 baht worth of gold has been arrested. He was found to have scouted out the area before committing the crime. The thief was apprehended inside a shopping mall in the Bang Pa-in area after police reviewed CCTV footage for two days, revealing the thief’s pickup truck parked to scout the area before the crime. Police are preparing to make a statement today.
According to Thai News Agency, the police investigation, carried out by the Region 1 investigation team and the Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya Provincial Police, led to the discovery of a suspicious pickup truck parked near the shopping mall a day before the incident. On March 23, the suspect parked the vehicle in the same spot, entered the shopping mall, and proceeded directly to the gold shop. There, he used a gun to rob gold jewelry, specifically a necklace weighing 160 baht and valued at approximately 7.8 million baht, before departing the scene on a hired motorcycle taxi.
The thorough analysis of surveillance footage allowed officers to track and monitor the pickup truck, eventually identifying the perpetrator as Mr. Worapot, aged 43. He was located and arrested in Pathum Thani Province, in possession of the stolen gold jewelry and clothing worn during the robbery.
The suspect is currently being questioned by authorities. Initial findings suggest Mr. Worapot committed the crime due to personal debts amounting to approximately 500,000 baht, including those of his close associates. A press conference is scheduled for today.
