Government Outlines 2026 Compensation Plan for Flood Victims

Accra:The Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation (DDPM) has announced three key approaches to the government's compensation plan for flood victims in 2026. These measures include guidelines for filing disaster insurance claims, aiming to alleviate the impact of floods on affected individuals.

According to Thai News Agency, the Director-General of DDPM, Mr. Nirat Pongsitthaworn, detailed the flood relief measures, which are guided by instructions from Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Anutin Charnvirakul. The relief falls into three categories emergency funds, financial assistance as per the Cabinet resolution, and the National Disaster Insurance Program.

The emergency funds are intended for immediate relief, based on Ministry of Finance regulations from 2025. They cover expenses such as housing repairs, temporary shelter rental, and tools for primary occupations, with specified limits for each category. Serious injuries and disabilities also receive financial support, as do funeral expenses, with applications submitted to local administrative organizations.

Financial assistance for floods between May 15 and September 30, 2026, covers 66 provinces, including Bangkok. The compensation ranges from 5,000 to 9,000 baht per household, depending on the flood duration and impact on housing. In cases of death due to floods or landslides, compensation is set at 2,000,000 baht per person.

The National Disaster Insurance Program, effective from October 1, 2026, to October 1, 2027, provides compensation for housing and life insurance. Coverage includes up to 100,000 baht per house per disaster and specified amounts for various incidents. Claimants must verify their identity through ThaiD, with funds transferred via PromptPay within 15 days once documentation is complete. The DDPM emphasizes its commitment to support and security for the public during flood situations.
