Heavy Rain Forecasted in Western Thailand Mid-October

Bangkok:The Joint Flood Situation Information Center has issued a warning about anticipated heavy rainfall in parts of Thailand from October 13 to 16.

According to Thai News Agency, the center reports that although rainfall has decreased this week, a significant increase is expected in the western part of the country during the stated period. The western section of central Thailand, including Uthai Thani, Kanchanaburi, Ratchaburi, and Phetchaburi, is under surveillance for heavy to very heavy rain. Bangkok is also expected to see heavy rain from evening to night. Additionally, the southern region will experience heavy rainfall in some areas for almost the entire period.

In response to these forecasts, the Royal Irrigation Department has modified its water management strategy. The water discharge downstream of the Chao Phraya Dam has been reduced to 1,900 cubic meters per second to alleviate impacts on downstream areas from Chainat to Samut Prakan. The Kaeng Krachan Dam, currently at 102% capacity, has similarly reduced its discharge to lessen the effects on Phetchaburi city. The Bang Pakong River basin faces challenges due to high tides, which are slowing water drainage; consequently, the Royal Thai Navy has deployed vessels to help counteract the tide.
