Bangkok: A female officer from the Royal Thai Police Traffic Division has been hailed as a hero after she played a pivotal role in the emergency delivery of twin babies, ensuring their safe arrival under intense circumstances.
According to Thai News Agency, Pol. Lt. Gen. Nithithorn Chintakanon, head of the working group for the Traffic Management Center at the Royal Thai Police, lauded the swift and skilled actions of the traffic police officers involved in the incident. The officers, part of a royal initiative project, successfully assisted a mother in labor, delivering the first twin in a residential bathroom and later facilitating the safe transport of the mother to Rajavithi Hospital for the delivery of the second twin.
The incident took place on July 14, 2026, at approximately 8:30 AM, when the Royal Project Traffic Radio Center received an urgent report about a woman giving birth in Pracha Rat Bamrung Soi 9. The traffic police officers responded immediately, finding that the mother had already delivered the first twin with the umbilical cord and placenta still attached. The second twin remained in utero. Officers acted quickly to secure the safety of both the mother and her newborns.
Police Sergeant Natthamon Prasongsanti, leading the squad from Division 6 of the Traffic Police Bureau, applied her childbirth assistance training acquired at Bangkok Hospital to assess and care for the newborn. Her team diligently cleaned the baby, suctioned any obstructions from the airways, and stimulated the newborn to ensure it cried for the first time, a sign of healthy lung function. An emergency medical team from Narenthorn Emergency Medical Center soon arrived, severing the umbilical cord and ensuring the health of the mother and the second twin still awaiting birth. The traffic police then swiftly cleared a route, allowing for the rapid transport of the mother and baby to the hospital for the subsequent delivery.
This incident not only underscores the diverse capabilities of the Royal Project traffic police but also highlights their preparedness, decision-making skills, and seamless coordination with emergency services during crises. Their actions reaffirm the public's trust in the police as a dependable resource capable of handling emergencies beyond their traditional duties.
Pol. Lt. Gen. Nithithorn expressed his admiration for all officers involved, particularly Sergeant Natthamon Prasongsanti, whose exemplary courage and competence, despite her recent transfer to the Royal Project area, stand as a testament to her prowess. This extraordinary act of bravery and skill reinforces her role as a "new star" within the traffic police, showcasing their vital contribution to public safety and well-being in critical moments.
