Indonesian Dish “Nasi Ayam Penya” Gains Popularity in Satun

Satun:A uniquely named dish, "Nasi Ayam Penya," originally from Indonesia, has made its way to Thailand's Satun province. The dish, which features fried chicken, has been adapted to suit local tastes and has received a highly positive response from customers.

According to Thai News Agency, the first establishment in Satun to offer this dish is located on the roadside entering Satun city, just past the traffic light intersection in Ban Khuan Subdistrict, Mueang Satun District. Ms. Parisa Mahamad, one of the owners, shared that she and her sisters previously ran a breakfast shop from their home. After tasting "Ayam Peonye" in Malaysia and finding it more appealing than its Indonesian counterpart, she decided to introduce it to Satun, adapting the recipe to suit Thai preferences. On the first day, they sold 30 boxes, but demand quickly grew. Sales have since increased to 300-400 boxes, with many customers placing orders in advance.

The dish consists of chicken legs and thighs marinated with spices and turmeric, fried to a crispy texture, and then gently pounded to tenderize the meat. It is served with a spicy sambal sauce, made from green bird's eye chilies, onions, and garlic, and served alongside fresh vegetables and rice crackers.

The selling price for a large set, which includes both chicken leg and thigh, is 89 baht, while a small set with just the thigh costs 59 baht. Orders can be placed via Facebook or by phone.
