Bangkok: A devastating landslide in a county in southwestern China has led to the tragic death of at least eight individuals, with 34 more reported missing. The catastrophic event has caused significant concern and prompted swift action from local authorities.
According to Thai News Agency, China's state-run CCTV television station reported on Saturday that President Xi Jinping issued an urgent directive late on Friday, July 17, to escalate search and rescue operations for the missing individuals. Additionally, a committee has been established to thoroughly investigate the cause of the landslide. The powerful landslide resulted in the collapse of several residential buildings situated on the hillside, necessitating the immediate evacuation of over 1,000 residents from nearby areas.
In response to the disaster, China's Ministry of Emergency Management has announced an upgrade to emergency response level 2. A specialized rescue team consisting of 100 personnel has been dispatched to the scene to expedite the rescue efforts and assist those potentially trapped under the debris.
