Bangkok:The tragic death of Metta Rungrat, a renowned veteran actress, has been linked to her battles with multiple illnesses, as revealed by her younger brother. The actress, known as the "Black Pearl of Asia" and a Golden Doll Award recipient, took her own life at her residence in the Lat Krabang District of Bangkok.
According to Thai News Agency, the Ruam Katanyu Foundation received a report of a suicide involving a firearm inside Metta's home. The actress, whose real name was Darawadee Duangdara, was found deceased with a gunshot wound to the head, lying in a pool of blood. Her caregiver had been away, and upon returning, found Metta's body. Neighbors reported hearing a noise similar to firecrackers around the time of the incident.
Metta Rungrat, aged 83, had been suffering from several health conditions, including Alzheimer's disease, high blood pressure, diabetes, and thyroid issues. Her younger brother, Mr. Sumet Duangdara, mentioned that despite these ailments, Metta was usually cheerful. However, she had recently started displaying symptoms of Alzheimer's and forgetfulness.
On the day of her passing, Metta had visited the hospital for a check-up. It remains unclear if new medical findings contributed to her stress. Arrangements for Metta's religious ceremony are pending the arrival of her sister from America, with her nieces also traveling from other provinces to manage the proceedings.
