Bang bo: A thief wearing a rider's uniform was arrested after he unilaterally robbed a famous shopping mall in Samut Prakan province. He made off with 163 baht worth of gold, with some of the stolen items found hidden in a speaker cabinet in a house.
According to Thai News Agency, the suspect, dressed like a rider and wearing a full-face helmet and a shoulder bag, stormed a gold shop and threatened employees with a gun. He then jumped over a display case in front of the shop and stole gold necklaces and bracelets totaling 163 baht. The stolen items included five 5-baht gold bracelets, 30 3-baht gold bracelets, and 24 2-baht gold bracelets. The suspect quickly fled on a motorcycle parked outside the shop. The robbery occurred on August 14th inside a shopping mall in Samut Prakan province.
Police recently arrested 31-year-old Weerawat at his residence in Ban Rakat Subdistrict, Bang Bo District. During a search of the house, they discovered some of the stolen gold hidden in a speaker cabinet and other pieces buried in plastic bags under a tree. Approximately 90 baht worth of stolen gold was initially seized. Weerawat was taken to the police station for questioning as authorities work to recover the remaining jewelry.
During initial questioning, Weerawat confessed to the crime, revealing that he was not a rider but ran a motorcycle repair shop. He wore the uniform as a disguise. He cited financial difficulties as the reason for the robbery, having borrowed money from informal lenders and struggling with daily interest payments. He committed the gold theft to settle his debts. Police are continuing their investigation, as they doubt Weerawat's claim of having lost some of the gold during his escape.
