Mae Sot Police Mobilize Task Force to Capture Gold Robber

Mae Sot: Police Region 6 has mobilized an investigative team to track down a gold robber who executed a heist at a renowned shopping mall in Mae Sot. The team has been simulating the incident to decode the culprit’s plan, expecting promising leads shortly. In the meantime, five border districts are maintaining strict checkpoints to prevent the robber from fleeing across the border.

According to Thai News Agency, the case involves a lone robber who targeted a gold jewelry shop in a Mae Sot mall, Tak Province. Disguised in a rider costume and helmet, the robber brandished a handgun to intimidate store employees and customers before leaping over the gold cabinet to grab three trays of gold weighing approximately 102 baht, valued at over 4.7 million baht. The robber swiftly placed the gold in a shoulder bag and escaped on a motorcycle parked at the mall’s entrance, completing the heist in under a minute.

Two days after the incident, the investigation continues around the clock. At Mae Sot Police Station, the investigation team remains committed to identifying the culprit. The team comprises members from Mae Sot Police Investigation Division, Tak Provincial Police Investigation Division, and Region 6 Police Investigation Division.

Significant progress was made when the Provincial Police Region 6 team reenacted the robber’s plan at the crime scene, comparing it with CCTV footage that fully captured the perpetrator’s actions. This analysis provided insights into the robber’s height, weight, and clear communication in Thai, suggesting the individual is likely Thai. The attire, including the rider’s uniform, was likely purchased new in Mae Sot, facilitating the robber’s inconspicuous movement in and out of the mall. It is believed that meticulous planning and preparation preceded the crime.

With concerns that the robber might transport the gold across the border, security officials in five districts along the Thai-Myanmar border have received images and video clips of the suspect from the day of the incident. They have intensified inspections by establishing mobile checkpoints along the roads bordering Myanmar. To date, no individual matching the suspect’s description has been detected crossing the border. The three investigation teams continue their urgent efforts in the field, hopeful for a breakthrough soon, as the investigation progresses significantly.
