TRANG: A mechanic in Trang Province has successfully turned his passion for farming into a profitable business by growing cabbage in pots. Mr. Suttinun Kliengklao, a 37-year-old automotive mechanic, has utilized the space around his home in Tung Khai Subdistrict, Yan Ta Khao District, to cultivate cabbage in pots, an endeavor that has quickly become a lucrative venture. His innovative approach not only caters to culinary and decorative needs but also addresses the challenges posed by frequent floods in the region.
According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Suttinun harvests and sells approximately 100 pots of cabbage in each batch, with 6-7 batches produced annually. The cultivation process takes about three months, and each pot is sold for 100 baht. His cabbage pots have garnered significant interest from customers who appreciate their versatility for cooking, home decoration, and various exhibitions. The potted cabbages also cater to urban dwellers with limited space, offering both aesthetic and health benefits. H
aving been in operation for two years, Mr. Suttinun is recognized as the first to undertake such an initiative in Yan Ta Khao District.
In addition to cabbage, Mr. Suttinun has broadened his horticultural repertoire by growing other vegetables such as eggplant, tomatoes, and chili peppers in pots. These too are sold at prices ranging from 100 to 150 baht per pot. This diversification has led to a steady stream of orders, enabling him to earn between 500 and 2,500 baht daily, translating to an annual income exceeding 300,000 baht.
