Bangkok: The Metropolitan Police Chief has convened an urgent meeting to address the recent shooting of a student in Pathumwan. The Commissioner has mandated strict control measures on Blue Day to prevent potential retaliatory actions. Checkpoints will be established to keep students from two nearby institutes apart.
According to Thai News Agency, Pol. Lt. Gen. Sayam Boonsom, Commissioner of the Metropolitan Police Bureau, attended a meeting to assess the progress in the case of a student from the Eastern Technological University, Uthenthawai Campus, who was shot twice and seriously injured on Phaya Thai Road, opposite the MBK Shopping Mall. The student is currently in a stable condition but is unable to provide a statement. Police have questioned a friend of the injured student who has supplied some details regarding the incident, though it remains unconfirmed if the shooting is linked to inter-university conflicts during Uthenthawai’s Blue Day.
The Metropolitan Police Commissioner has instructed local police to enhance security measures for the university’s founding day on February 1. Specific zones will be established to prevent confrontations between students from the two institutes, which are located near significant tourist sites. The goal is to avoid any negative impact on the nation’s image and to maintain tourist confidence. The Commissioner has also prioritized the swift apprehension of the suspects involved in the shooting.

He was shot in the back with the bullets exiting through his chest. He is currently being treated at the Police General Hospital after the incident, which involved a total of five shots fired by the perpetrators.
