Chiang mai: The Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation (MHESI) is taking significant strides in nurturing a new generation of "university entrepreneurs" for the global stage through its ELP 2026 initiative. This national pitching competition aims to select 25 outstanding individuals from over 540 applicants to advance innovations and research, establishing competitive Thai businesses for the future.
According to Thai News Agency, Dr. Panphermsak Arunee, Deputy Permanent Secretary of MHESI, presided over the opening ceremony of the national-level Pitching and Interview event. This event is part of the 'Experiential Learning to Accelerate Entrepreneurship Project from Regional Science Park Network Universities in collaboration with International Partners.' Distinguished attendees included Prof. Dr. Komkrit Leksakul, Deputy Director of the Office of National Science and Technology Development Agency (NSTDA), and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Pitiwat Wattanachai, Director of the Chiang Mai University Science and Technology Park, alongside project committee members, university executives, and students. The event was hosted at the Exhibition Hall, Northern Science Park, Chiang Mai.
Dr. Phanphermsak highlighted that MHESI, in collaboration with 16 universities in the regional science park network across the country, has continuously implemented the project since 2023. The participating universities include Chiang Mai University, Maejo University, Mae Fah Luang University, University of Phayao, Naresuan University, Phibulsongkram Rajabhat University, Uttaradit Rajabhat University, Khon Kaen University, Mahasarakham University, Suranaree University of Technology, Ubon Ratchathani University, Prince of Songkla University, Walailak University, Thaksin University, Burapha University, and King Mongkut's University of Technology Thonburi. The initiative focuses on cultivating students to apply knowledge, technology, and innovation to develop products, services, and businesses that meet market demands. It also aims to foster the creation of university entrepreneurs who can leverage research for commercialization and create sustainable economic and social value.
The ELP program is designed to prepare students for the evolving modern economy and labor market by enhancing skills such as analytical thinking, problem-solving, teamwork, communication, data-driven decision-making, and cultural adaptability. Through experiential learning, both domestically and internationally, participants gain opportunities to learn from entrepreneurs and international partners, test their business plans and innovations in real markets, and gather feedback to improve competitiveness.
As the project enters its fourth year in 2026, the selection process for participants has been intensified. Candidates must undergo a three-level selection process: university, regional, and national. From over 540 applicants nationwide, 25 promising individuals will be chosen. This presentation and interview process provides a crucial opportunity for participants to receive expert feedback and demonstrate their potential to become entrepreneurs who create tangible economic and social impacts.
