Ministry of Education Unveils 2027 Budget to Transform Thai Education

Bangkok: The Ministry of Education is set to present its 2027 budget, emphasizing the "All for Education" initiative aimed at overhauling the Thai education system. Mr. Prasert Chantarawong, the Minister of Education, expressed confidence in the budget's potential to drive educational transformation and welcomed all feedback for development.

According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Prasert addressed the press regarding the House of Representatives' review of the 2027 fiscal year budget bill, specifically relating to the Ministry of Education. He stated that the Ministry is well-prepared to explain its budget allocations and supports the right of Members of Parliament to scrutinize and debate the financial plans of any ministry. The Ministry remains open to suggestions from both opposition and government leaders.

In 2027, the Ministry of Education is set to receive the second-highest budget allocation in Thailand, totaling 359,576.8846 million baht. A significant portion, over 64.70%, is designated for public sector personnel, followed by strategic budgets at 32.13%, basic budgets at 2.95%, and integrated budgets at 0.22%. The budget dedicated to the Minister of Education's policy amounts to 78,783 million baht for 228 projects under the "All for Education" concept. This initiative focuses on five key areas: returning time to teachers, reforming curricula, upgrading learning experiences, ensuring safe school environments, and creating a new educational framework through the National Education Act.

Mr. Prasert also discussed the ongoing issue with the 2026 teacher assistant selection exam results for the Office of the Basic Education Commission (OBEC), which affected candidate rankings. He has directed Suan Dusit University, the exam organizer, to urgently engage with the affected parties to resolve the discrepancies swiftly.
