Motorcycle Gang Arrested on Vibhavadi Road, 14 Motorcycles Seized

Bangkok: Seventeen members of a motorcycle gang were arrested on Vibhavadi Road, resulting in the seizure of 14 motorcycles. The arrests were carried out by the Central Traffic Police, who have been addressing issues of street racing and reckless driving in the area. The court has sentenced the individuals to imprisonment, fines, and confiscation of their vehicles.

According to Thai News Agency, the operation was led by high-ranking officials including Pol. Lt. Gen. Siam Boonsom, Commissioner of the Metropolitan Police Bureau, and Pol. Maj. Gen. Thawatch Wongsa-nga, Deputy Commissioner of the Metropolitan Police Bureau in charge of traffic. The arrests involved 10 juveniles and 7 adults on Vibhavadi Rangsit Road, specifically on the outbound lanes between the entrance to Vibhavadi Rangsit Soi 17 and the area in front of Don Mueang Airport. The group was involved in street racing and reckless driving towards Sutthisan Intersection.

The operation was part of the "Vibhavadi Safe Road Project" policy, initiated following complaints from motorists about late-night gatherings of motorcycles engaging in high-speed and dangerous driving. The incident, which took place in January 2026, prompted authorities to investigate using CCTV footage, photographs, and vehicle registration records. This led to the identification of the offenders and subsequent arrests.

The investigation revealed that the group assembled at Soi Vibhavadi 17 and raced along Vibhavadi Rangsit Road, making a U-turn near Don Mueang Airport and continuing to Sutthisan Intersection. Their actions posed a threat to public safety, prompting charges of unauthorized street racing.

On February 18-19, 2026, all 17 suspects reported to authorities, leading to the confiscation of 14 motorcycles. Legal proceedings were held at the Bangkok North District Court, where seven adults received a one-month prison sentence, fined 10,000 baht each, with the prison sentence suspended for a year, in addition to the confiscation of their vehicles. The ten juveniles were referred to the Bangkok Juvenile Detention and Protection Center for further proceedings.
