MP Urges Cooperation in Local Government Exam Cheating Investigation

Bangkok:Mr. Rangsiman Rome, a Member of Parliament from the People's Party and part of the House of Representatives' Committee on Law, Justice, and Human Rights, has urged Mr. Thongjuea Chatkitjaroen to provide information to the House Committee on Legal Affairs regarding the ongoing local government exam cheating case. Mr. Rome sarcastically noted that despite several invitations, Mr. Thongjuea has remained unresponsive, often giving the reply, "The number you dialed cannot be reached." He expressed concerns that the investigation might not reach the politicians involved and revealed he has comprehensive details about key figures, including those who are "protégés of influential people" and may secure positions without resorting to bribery. According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Rangsiman gave an interview before a meeting meant to address corruption in local government recruitment examinations for 2024-2026. He mentioned that cooperation has been lacking from several individuals, including relevant ministers a nd directors-general, who will be invited for further discussions. The list of those implicated is starting to become clear, with Mr. Thongjuea being a key person of interest. Additionally, the Rector of Srinakharinwirot University was invited to clarify how an outsider accessed records related to the examination process. Mr. Rangsiman emphasized the necessity of taking action against the exam cheating, including filing charges. He highlighted the role of the committee chaired by Deputy Prime Minister Pakorn Nilapraphan in ensuring progress, referencing Mr. Anutin's previous stance against allowing anyone to cheat superiors. Despite assurances, cheating has occurred, possibly involving people at higher levels. There has been little progress in the investigation, despite efforts to follow up, Mr. Rangsiman noted. The National Anti-Corruption Commission (NACC) requested information from Mr. Anutin but has yet to receive it. Mr. Rangsiman expressed surprise at this delay, especially as Mr. Pakorn's team report edly completed the matter long ago. The individuals involved have not yet responded positively to the meeting invitations. Mr. Rangsiman confirmed that the Legal Affairs Committee remains committed to following up on the case, having gathered significant information and identified key figures. He expressed concerns over the possible exclusion of political factions from scrutiny. Mr. Rangsiman also pointed out Mr. Thongjuea's unresponsiveness to multiple invitations and the necessity to communicate this to the public. He questioned Mr. Thongjuea's involvement and relationship with Mr. Anutin. Further, Mr. Rangsiman mentioned the invitation of the Governor of Nakhon Si Thammarat and the former secretary of Deputy Prime Minister Pipat Ratchakitprakarn due to their family members' involvement in the scandal. He suspects their possible ties to the corruption, although they continue to advance in their careers. Investigating these connections is deemed necessary to ensure fairness and uncover the facts.
