Bangkok: The National Anti-Corruption Commission (NACC) is enhancing its public services by launching a "One-Stop Service Center for Public Information" aimed at making the submission of asset declarations and complaints more accessible and secure. Surapong Intharathaworn is preparing to transfer responsibilities to the new NACC Secretary-General.
According to Thai News Agency, the Office of the National Anti-Corruption Commission (NACC), in collaboration with key figures such as Phra Thep Wachiravithayanusit, Abbot of Wat Phothong, Mr. Suchart Trakulkesemsuk, Chairman of the NACC, and Mr. Surapong Intharathaworn, Secretary-General of the NACC, inaugurated the new center. This initiative seeks to streamline public access to NACC services by offering a comprehensive range of services in a single location while maintaining high standards of confidentiality and security in managing complaints and information dissemination.
The One-Stop Service Center is strategically located in front of the NACC office to ensure easy access, with parking facilities and reception staff available to assist visitors. The center's interior design includes designated service areas such as a complaint and information service point on the first floor, which ensures the confidentiality and safety of whistleblowers' information.
The second floor houses the Asset and Liability Declaration Filing Center, which has modernized its processes with an automated queuing system to expedite the declaration process. A display room is also available for the public and media to inspect the asset declarations of political officials as mandated by law.
Additional facilities include a confidential information room, a press conference area, and a welfare zone with a coffee shop for public use. Mr. Surapong Intarathaworn emphasized that the establishment of this center marks a significant advancement in public access to NACC information, integrating data into a big data system for broader accessibility.
The NACC, tasked with investigating high-ranking officials, will coordinate with relevant agencies to address public complaints, including those related to lower-level officials. This initiative aims to bolster the investigatory capabilities of agencies in curbing corruption among government officials and minimizing corruption complaints.
The center is also engaging with the Department of Land Transport to address issues such as bribes involving truck drivers. By facilitating the reporting of such incidents, the center ensures informants' confidentiality while prompting relevant agencies to take appropriate actions.
As Mr. Surapong prepares for retirement, he anticipates that his successor, Mr. Nitiphan Prachuabmoh, will likely continue and expand upon the policies set by the current NACC committee. The new Secretary-General is expected to adopt a proactive approach, exemplified by the ongoing case of an official involved in cheating on a local government exam, which may require further asset investigations.
