Bangkok: The Minister of Agriculture and Cooperatives, on the occasion of National Rice and Farmers' Day 2026, emphasized that Thai farmers are a vital force for the country and pledged continued support in upgrading Thai rice production through the development of quality seeds, the promotion of low-carbon rice, and the application of modern technology throughout the production process. This aims to reduce costs and create stable incomes for farmers.
According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Suriya Jungrungreangkit, Minister of Agriculture and Cooperatives, stated in his speech on National Rice and Farmers' Day 2026 that National Rice and Farmers' Day is an opportunity to celebrate the value of rice and honor Thai farmers, who are a vital force in food production and have long been the foundation of Thailand's agricultural sector.
Mr. Suriya stated that rice is not only the staple food of Thai people, but also an integral part of the country's way of life, culture, and economy. Therefore, the government prioritizes the development of the agricultural sector towards "precision agriculture, secure agriculture, and sustainable agriculture" to enhance the long-term competitiveness of Thai agriculture.
The Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives aims to improve the quality of rice production by promoting low-carbon rice farming, coupled with research and development of rice varieties and the production of high-quality seeds. This will help increase yields, reduce risks from diseases and pests, and meet changing market demands.
Simultaneously, support will be provided for the adoption of modern technologies throughout the entire production chain, from cultivation and pest control to post-harvest management and marketing, in order to increase production efficiency, reduce costs, and improve the quality of Thai rice to be competitive in the global market.
The Minister of Agriculture and Cooperatives stated that Thai farmers remain a vital force in ensuring food security for the country and expressed confidence that, thanks to the diligence, perseverance, and wisdom of Thai farmers, coupled with support from the government and all sectors, Thai rice will sustainably maintain its quality, standards, and competitiveness in the global market.
