Sukhothai:The Office of the Narcotics Control Board (ONCB) has successfully carried out "Operation Cut Out the Cancer, Phase 29," resulting in the arrest of personnel from a state hospital and the seizure of over a thousand methamphetamine pills. This operation is part of the ONCB's ongoing six-month war on drugs, which focuses on targeting government officials involved in drug trafficking.
According to Thai News Agency, the operation, conducted in Sukhothai Province, dismantled a network of seven individuals, including three hospital staff members and four others, and seized a total of 1,359 methamphetamine pills. The operation followed a tip-off received in early November, leading to investigations in the Mueang District where a hospital orderly was found to be using drugs. This individual cooperated with authorities, providing information crucial to uncovering a larger drug trafficking network within the hospital.
Further investigations by the Office of the Narcotics Control Board Region 6, in collaboration with local authorities, led to the arrest of a hospital driver and the seizure of 252 methamphetamine pills. Law enforcement also apprehended a drug dealer who abandoned 957 pills during a raid, and additional suspects with 150 methamphetamine pills in their possession.
A female nursing assistant tested positive for drugs and has been ordered to undergo treatment, with potential dismissal pending. Two acquaintances of the nursing assistant were also arrested for drug-related offenses.
Operation 29 is aligned with government measures to decisively address drug-related activities among officials, aiming to restore public trust and eradicate drug problems comprehensively. The public is encouraged to report drug trafficking activities to the Narcotics Suppression Bureau hotline.
