According to Thai News Agency, the Pattaya Songkran water festival officially began in the afternoon after the beach roads were closed. The atmosphere of water splashing throughout Pattaya became increasingly lively, with Thai and foreign tourists continuously arriving to participate in the activities. Along the main roads, especially Sukhumvit Road and routes leading into Pattaya, tents and water tanks were set up almost everywhere, causing traffic congestion and crowds of people enjoying the water festivities.
In addition, groups of tourists were seen using pickup trucks loaded with water tanks for splashing water, as well as motorcyclists participating in the activities along various streets, resulting in an overall fun atmosphere throughout the day.
The area along the beach road in Pattaya is closed to traffic from 12:00 PM to midnight to allow locals and tourists to fully enjoy swimming and walking around. In the evening, more tourists began to arrive to swim as the weather was not as hot as during the day.
It is expected that the number of tourists will continue to increase throughout the evening and night, and will likely be as crowded as in previous years.
