Pattaya: The Commissioner General of Police has mandated decisive disciplinary and criminal proceedings against a Pattaya police officer who shot and killed another individual.
According to Thai News Agency, Pol. Lt. Gen. Trairong Phiwphan, Deputy Inspector General and spokesperson for the Royal Thai Police, disclosed that Pol. Gen. Kittirat Phanphet, Commissioner General, along with Pol. Gen. Itthipol Achariyapradit, Inspector General, have tasked him with investigating a violent incident involving a brawl and shooting in the Pattaya City Police Station area, Chonburi Province. The altercation, which took place at a bar and resulted in a fatality, was perpetrated by a police officer.
Pol. Col. Anek Sarathongyoo, Superintendent of Pattaya City Police Station, reported that the incident unfolded at 1:20 AM today. Police responded to a call reporting a violent confrontation involving a firearm behind a restaurant. Upon arriving at the scene, rescue workers were found assisting a man who had sustained gunshot wounds. Prior to the shooting, the victim, a friend, and the police officer were seated at the same table. A dispute erupted, during which the officer attempted to shoot one of the diners but missed. Another individual tried to disarm the officer, resulting in serious injuries that later led to his death at the hospital. The officer was arrested on the spot.
Pol. Lt. Gen. Trairong emphasized the need for immediate and decisive legal and disciplinary measures against those involved. He also called for a rigorous review of the supervision and discipline of police officers, aligning with orders aimed at controlling and improving police conduct and discipline.
