Perpetrator of M7 Highway Incident Takes Responsibility After Dropping Debris

Bangkok: The perpetrator who inadvertently dropped nuts and screws on Highway No. 7, leading to multiple vehicle damages, has met with the police and accepted responsibility for the incident. The Department of Highways, in conjunction with the Highway Police and the Bangkok Metropolitan Police, successfully tracked down the individual responsible for the incident, which occurred at kilometer 39+600 on June 12, 2026.

According to Thai News Agency, the Department of Highways reported that the debris, which included nuts and screws, resulted in significant damage to several vehicles as they traversed the affected section of the highway. The Intercity Expressway Division, utilizing CCTV footage and police investigations, managed to identify and apprehend the responsible party on the same day. The individual reported to On Nut Police Station at approximately 9:00 PM to provide information and acknowledge the charges, revealing that the materials fell from a vehicle due to improper covering.

The perpetrator has agreed to compensate for all damages under the terms of the car insurance policy, with the business owner confirming full responsibility for any additional damages beyond insurance coverage. Preliminary investigations by police officers at nearby tire repair shops indicated that around 43 vehicles experienced tire damage due to the incident. The Department of Highways is working with relevant agencies to verify the complete number of affected individuals.

The Department of Highways expressed gratitude to the Highway Police and On Nut Metropolitan Police for their efficient cooperation in resolving the situation. They urge affected individuals to file a police report and present evidence at On Nut Metropolitan Police Station for damage assessment and further proceedings.

Additionally, the Department of Highways advises transport operators and road users to ensure proper loading and securing of cargo to prevent similar incidents. Pol. Gen. Samran Nualma, Deputy Commissioner-General of the Royal Thai Police, emphasized the importance of safe transportation practices and warned that violations of the Road Traffic Act will be met with strict enforcement.

Following the incident, the Department of Highways and highway patrol officers promptly cleared the debris to prevent further accidents. Pol. Gen. Samran also cautioned drivers on the legal ramifications of negligence in securing transported goods, underscoring the impact on public safety and the potential for civil and criminal charges.
