The National Science and Technology Development Agency (NSTDA) is continuing to leverage research findings for industrial applications through innovations for pets and other livestock. These innovations address the needs of increasing product value, reducing production costs, and upgrading livestock farming standards. Their scope encompasses everything from animal feed and eco-friendly materials to smart farm systems and high-value pet health care products. According to Thai News Agency, starting with innovations for our beloved four-legged friends, the National Metal and Materials Technology Center (MTEC) has developed "Dog dental chews for good oral health." By applying knowledge from food materials science and extrusion processes, the structure and formula of the treats are designed to be twice as hard as conventional formulas. This allows dogs to chew longer, reduces plaque and tartar buildup, and promotes oral hygiene and fresh breath. Furthermore, the production process is designed for industrial-scale production using existing machinery, enabling private companies to quickly develop the product into a commercial enterprise.
For cat lovers, MTEC has also developed "environmentally friendly cat litter made from agricultural raw materials." This product transforms agricultural waste into a clumping material that effectively absorbs moisture and odor, reducing reliance on imported materials and being naturally biodegradable. This adds value to agricultural waste while minimizing environmental impact, meeting consumer demand for eco-friendly products.
In addition to pet products, NSTDA is adding value to the livestock industry. The National Nanotechnology Center (NANOTEC), in collaboration with Saraburi Farm Co., Ltd., developed an "innovative dog supplement from pig placenta protein extract" using protein extraction and encapsulation technology in the form of microbeads. This improves absorption in the digestive system and its antioxidant and anti-inflammatory effects have been confirmed in laboratory settings. This has been further developed into a premium pet supplement under the brand Tailly Tailly, which is registered with the Department of Livestock Development. This reflects the creation of added value from waste materials following the principles of the Circular Economy.
To enhance the production processes of livestock, the National Electronics and Computer Technology Center (NECTEC) has developed an "Intelligent Odor Monitoring and Control System for Pig Farms using GASSET Gas Sensor Technology." This system can monitor the concentration of odor-causing gases in real-time, trigger treatment processes, and track results. This enables farm operators to manage the farm environment accurately and promptly, supporting the upgrading of livestock farms to environmentally friendly production systems, aligning with modern agricultural standards, and promoting sustainable coexistence between operators and communities.
