Phuket to Host Grand Historical Drama Honoring Heroines of Thalang

Phuket: Following in the footsteps of "Grandmother Chan and Grandmother Muk," the Phuket Provincial Administrative Organization, in collaboration with Phuket Province, announced its readiness to host the light, sound, and historical drama "Thao Thep Krasattri - Thao Sri Sunthorn: Honoring the Brave Heroes of Thalang" in 2026. The event aims to celebrate the courageous deeds of these two heroines who sacrificed themselves to protect the land.

According to Thai News Agency, the commemorative event will be titled "The Historical Drama and Light Show: Thao Thep Krasattri and Thao Sri Sunthorn, and Cultural Activities: A Cultural and Traditional Fair." It is scheduled to take place from March 13-16, 2026, at the Thalang Memorial, Thep Krasattri Subdistrict, Thalang District, Phuket Province. The event will be held under the theme "Love the Nation, Protect the Land: Heroines of Thalang," providing an opportunity for youth and the public to express gratitude and continue this invaluable historical legacy.

The announcement was made in the presence of Mr. Nirat Pongsitthaworn, Governor of Phuket Province; Mr. Rewat Areerob, President of the Phuket Provincial Administrative Organization; Ms. Siriwan Seeharach, Director of the Tourism Authority of Thailand, Phuket Office; Mr. Naphatrapon Nolchit, Executive Committee member of the Thao Thep Krasattri Thao Sri Sunthorn Foundation; and Mr. Thanit Prateep Na Thalang, descendant of Ya Chan and Ya Muk. Famous actresses Hana Lewis and Maggie Apapha Phavilai, portraying "Ya Chan" and "Ya Muk" respectively, also attended the announcement.

Mr. Rewat Areerob emphasized the organization's commitment to preserving local history, arts, and culture while promoting sustainable tourism development. The event will serve as a tribute to the heroines and heroes of Thalang and as an educational experience for the public and youth, raising awareness of the value of Thailand and the roots of Phuket.

The presentation of the story under the concept of 'Ya Chan, Ya Muk, and the Legend of the 9 Heroes of Thalang' will highlight the courage, unity, and multiculturalism of the community. The Phuket Provincial Administrative Organization aims to promote historical and cultural tourism and stimulate the local economy through this event. It will showcase Phuket's history, way of life, and local arts and culture through a light and sound show and cultural activities.

The 2026 light and sound show will honor the city's heroes and ancestors who fought to protect the land and will be titled "Ya Chan, Ya Muk: 9 Heroes of Thalang." The performance will celebrate the heroism of Thao Thep Krasattri (Ya Chan) and Thao Sri Sunthorn (Ya Muk) along with seven other heroes: Phraya Thongpoon, Phraya Thalangthian, Mae Prang, Chao Khun Marda Thong, Phraya Yokbat Chui, Mahatlek Niam, and Nai Thongpeng.

This year's performance will feature a contemporary cultural experience, integrating LED screen technology and a revamped show format to accurately recount historical events. The event will include local arts, culture, and traditions, along with cultural performances and sales of local food and products from diverse communities across Phuket. Admission to the event is free for all residents and tourists.
