According to Thai News Agency, Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, Anutin Charnvirakul, presided over the opening ceremony and delivered a keynote address at the 1st Green Bridge Forum, a regional working group meeting on environmental monitoring and related stakeholders, held at the main hall of the Nong Nooch Tropical Garden, Pattaya, Sattahip District, Chonburi Province. Also in attendance were Deputy Minister of Interior, Polpeerap Suwannachavi; Commander-in-Chief of the Royal Thai Navy, Admiral Pairoj Fuengchan; Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Interior, Arsit Sampanrat; State Audit Commissioner Montien Charoenphol; representatives from relevant agencies and international organizations.
The Prime Minister delivered a keynote address on the topic of "Thailand and the Transition to a Green Future: The Role of the Government in Driving Sustainable Development," stating that this conference is an important platform to link government oversight with the environmental and sustainable development agenda. This concerns the livelihoods and occupations of the people, and how we can ensure our country has the infrastructure to withstand economic and environmental crises while maintaining appropriate growth. Sustainability is no longer merely a limitation of development, but is now a core policy principle in Thailand's development, such as sustainable investment and the most environmentally conscious use of resources.
Therefore, Thailand has been supporting investment in the green economy and innovations that have a positive impact on the environment. At the same time, Thailand recognizes that the transition to an environmentally friendly economy requires the most efficient and transparent use of public resources. This is why good governance is so important.
The Prime Minister further stated that the circular economy and pollution issues are crucial matters that the government must work together on. The Office of the Auditor General must include these issues as targets for its audits in order to encourage the public sector to spend on environmentally friendly and sustainable projects and investments. He expressed his great pleasure at seeing the inclusion of sustainability in the public sector in the Green Bridge Forum report to be released today, as it will support and promote the work of the Office of the Auditor General and the public sector in a more tangible way.
The Prime Minister stated that if Thailand had an independent organization with a vision to scrutinize the government sector to be more internationally aligned in terms of sustainability, it would greatly improve the performance of the government. This is because no country can completely identify all environmental problems, as these issues are interconnected internationally. Therefore, we must use this platform to learn and exchange experiences, while also considering future generations who will use our resources. For this reason, we must realize that our descendants will also need these resources.
