Prime Minister Signs MOU to Combat Liver Fluke Disease and Bile Duct Cancer in Thailand


Bangkok: The Prime Minister signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) aimed at addressing the issue of liver fluke disease and reducing the incidence of bile duct cancer in Thailand. He expressed gratitude to the Ministry of Interior and the Ministry of Public Health for their collaboration, emphasizing that all parties involved are committed to genuine efforts rather than superficial actions.



According to Thai News Agency, Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, Anutin Charnvirakul, led the signing ceremony for the MOU, which involved cooperation between the Health Systems Research Institute, the Ministry of Public Health, the Ministry of Interior, and Khon Kaen University. This collaboration seeks to prevent and eradicate liver fluke disease while reducing cholangiocarcinoma in the country.



The Prime Minister highlighted his dual roles as Prime Minister and Minister of Public Health, underscoring the importance of utilizing his position to bring about positive change. He reassured the public that there is no need to worry about ministerial recognition as the focus is on the health and safety of the people. The Prime Minister called for confidence in the efforts being made, clarifying that the initiative is not about self-promotion but about tangible outcomes for the Thai population.



The Prime Minister also stressed the importance of addressing liver fluke infections and bile duct cancer, particularly in the Northeast region. He noted that the MOU is designed to produce effective, sustainable results. By viewing the MOU as more than just an agreement, he aims for it to lead to a measurable decrease in liver fluke infections and related health issues. Acknowledging the challenges of treating bile duct cancer, he emphasized the need for prevention and early intervention. The Prime Minister concluded by expressing his appreciation for the ministries’ work, noting that success in these efforts would benefit all involved, including himself as Prime Minister.
