Geneva: Prime Minister Sihasak Sihasak is set to travel to Geneva for the Human Rights Council meeting from February 23-25 to address issues surrounding the scammer problem and the Thai-Cambodian border, as well as to enhance relations with President Ottawa.

According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Panidol Patchimsawat, Acting Director-General of the Department of Information and Deputy Spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, has announced the upcoming visit of Mr. Sihasak Phuangketkaew, Minister of Foreign Affairs, to Geneva, Switzerland. Mr. Sihasak will participate in the 61st High-Level Meeting of the United Nations Human Rights Council (HRC) and other meetings.

Mr. Sihasak is expected to deliver a statement focusing on the impact of online scams from a human rights perspective, addressing issues such as financial fraud, forced labor, deprivation of freedom, psychological violence, and violations of human dignity. These issues have significant social and economic implications in many countries, including those in Southeast Asia. Additionally, Mr. Sihasak will present Thailand's vision derived from hosting the International Conference on Global Partnership to Combat Cyber Fraud in December 2025, highlighting Thailand's commitment to human rights protection, an area in which the country has shown progress during its membership in the United Nations Human Rights Council from 2025 to 2027.

Further engagements in Geneva will include meetings with senior United Nations officials, including the High Commissioner for Human Rights. These discussions will aim to promote cooperation between Thailand and the United Nations and exchange views on regional situations, particularly the Thai-Cambodian border. Mr. Sihasak intends to clarify Thailand's actions, which align with international law, human rights principles, and the joint statement signed by Thailand and Cambodia on December 27, 2025.

In his capacity as chairman of the 23rd Conference of Parties to the Convention on the Prohibition of Anti-Personnel Mine Use, Mr. Sihasak is also scheduled to attend a reception hosted by Zambia. This event will provide an opportunity to strengthen relations with the chairman, reaffirm Thailand's commitment to the Ottawa Convention, and encourage action against States Parties that violate the Convention.
