Bangkok: "Thongthong" reveals his admiration for "Princess Bajrakitiyabha". Professor Thongthong acknowledged that the entire nation is grieving following the passing of Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn, and expressed his deep appreciation for her unforgettable royal kindness.
According to Thai News Agency, Professor Thongthong Chantrangsu stated that during the evening and night of yesterday, concern arose among the public following news about the health of Her Royal Highness Princess Bajrakitiyabha Narendira Debyavadi, Krom Luang Rajasarinisiripatchara Mahavajrarajathida. Everyone awaited clarification from the Royal Household Bureau. Then, this morning, it was officially announced that Her Royal Highness had passed away sometime last night, causing sadness and grief, as felt by many citizens who had previously prayed for her recovery.
Professor Thongthong stated that the more than 40 years that His Majesty the King has performed his duties for the nation and its people is a great and invaluable "miracle." He has been a source of inspiration for his subjects and has continuously dedicated himself to working for the country.
Her Royal Highness has played a significant role in many areas, including volunteer work, justice-related work, her service as a prosecutor, and her international activities, particularly her collaboration with the United Nations on crime and drug prevention, all of which have been crucial contributions to the country.
For Professor Thongthong, it was a great fortune in his life to have had the opportunity to serve and be close to His Majesty. He was deeply compassionate and cordial, always interested in history, culture, law, and the affairs of the country. His Majesty engaged in conversation, inquiring about and exchanging opinions on many issues, making him feel that His Majesty was a true source of spiritual support and genuinely cared for the well-being of the people.
Professor Thongthong also recounted his impressions, saying that Her Majesty the Queen was deeply concerned about female prisoners. He once accompanied Her Majesty on a visit to a prison and saw her compassionately holding a prisoner's child. This led to Her Majesty's initiatives on caring for female prisoners being developed into the "Bangkok Rules," which have been recognized by the United Nations as international standards for the treatment of female prisoners worldwide. This is considered a significant honor for Thailand.
Another vivid memory that remains in my heart is from 1991, while doing research in Kyoto, Japan. I had the opportunity to greet His Majesty and accompany him to a pet shop near our hotel, where he graciously chose to buy a dog. Afterward, he even asked me to find a dog ball to send back to him. These small stories allowed me to witness His Majesty's beautiful character, friendliness, and compassion towards those around him.
'When the time came that His Majesty was no longer with us, it was with deep sorrow, regret, and grief, filled with lifelong loyalty,' Professor Thongthong said.
