According to Thai News Agency, the King Prajadhipok Institute conducted a survey titled "Public Perspectives on the State Welfare Card and Future Directions" between July 25-28, 2026. The findings indicate a strong public desire for the continuation of the welfare card program, with many suggesting enhancements to address existing challenges.
The survey identified vehicle ownership as the most problematic criterion for welfare card eligibility, with 24.4% of respondents expressing concerns. This was followed by issues with income limits and borrowing constraints. Notably, more than half of the participants disagreed with recent reductions in the number of eligible welfare card recipients, fearing that it could exclude potentially qualified individuals. However, opinions varied significantly across different regions, with Bangkok residents showing the highest agreement with the screening results.
The poll also underscored the need for clearer communication and data linkage between government agencies to simplify the eligibility review process. Many respondents emphasized the importance of providing clear explanations for eligibility decisions and reducing the burden on citizens to navigate multiple agencies for information.
