Putin Expresses Willingness for Peace Talks with Ukraine in Anchorage

Anchorage: Russian President Vladimir Putin has expressed his readiness to engage in negotiations with Ukraine, proposing a meeting at a U.S. military base in Anchorage, Alaska. Russia is prepared to adhere to the framework and compromises discussed with U.S. President Donald Trump back in August and anticipates Ukraine's acceptance of these terms.

According to Thai News Agency, Ukraine has previously rejected such proposals due to a significant condition that involves ceding territory to Russia. In the ongoing conflict, Russian officials report that their forces are advancing steadily, claiming full control over the Luhansk region and occupying a large portion of Donetsk and Zaporizhzhia.

Despite the ongoing conflict, Putin remains open to the possibility of a peace agreement with Ukraine's legitimate representatives, including President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. Zelenskyy has reached out to Putin with an open letter suggesting face-to-face negotiations to end the prolonged war. Ukraine is proposing a ceasefire during the discussions and a full exchange of prisoners of war.

However, Zelenskyy has made it clear that if the war does not end, Ukraine is prepared to continue its fight for survival. He warned that a prolonged conflict could jeopardize Putin's political position. In response, a Kremlin spokesperson acknowledged the receipt of Zelenskyy's letter but noted that the details have not yet been reviewed. Meanwhile, President Trump has expressed that a meeting between the two leaders would be highly beneficial.

In the United States, the political landscape shows signs of tension. The US House of Representatives recently passed a new aid package for Ukraine and imposed sanctions on Russia. Notably, several Republican members crossed party lines to support the legislation, highlighting a division and opposition to President Trump's foreign policy within his own party.
