Royal Irrigation Department Prepares for Southern Thailand’s Rainy Season

Accra:The Royal Irrigation Department is gearing up for the upcoming rainy season across southern Thailand, focusing on preparing machinery and monitoring potential flooding to minimize public impact.

According to Thai News Agency, Director-General Witthaya Kaewmee has instructed all southern areas to be ready for heavy rainfall. The department is inspecting flood-prone areas and ensuring that machinery, including water pumps and propulsion equipment, is ready for deployment as per the 2026 flood response plan. Monitoring weather conditions, rainfall, and water levels, the department aims to manage water resources effectively and accelerate drainage in high-risk areas.

Efforts are being made to improve drainage efficiency and reduce flooding while quickly issuing warnings and disseminating information to the public in at-risk areas. The objective is to enable timely preparation and provide immediate assistance during emergencies, minimizing impacts on lives and property. Coordination with agencies is facilitated through the Water Management Crisis Coordination Center 2026, accessible via the department's hotline 1460 or online channels.
