Bangkok: The Royal Thai Army Command and Staff College (RTA CSC) has initiated the "1 Year, 1 Qualification" project to improve the educational level of conscripted soldiers during their service to the nation. According to Thai News Agency, the project was launched in collaboration with the Department of Learning Promotion (DLP) under the Ministry of Education, with participation from Mr. Akranan Kankittinant, Deputy Minister of Education, Ms. Ketsathip Suphavanich, Director-General of the DLP, and General Amrit Boonsuya, Assistant Commander-in-Chief of the Royal Thai Army.
The 2024 Basic Education Qualification Enhancement Curriculum forms the foundation of this initiative, providing conscripted soldiers who have not completed basic education with the opportunity to elevate their qualifications by at least one level within a year of military service. This collaboration between the Ministry of Education and the Royal Thai Army seeks to facilitate continuous education access for soldiers, utilizing adaptable learning models that fit their military duties and schedules.
Mr. Akranan emphasized the significance of the '1 Year, 1 Degree' project for creating educational opportunities for military personnel. He highlighted the importance of military service being a period of potential development rather than educational interruption, underscoring the lifelong value of education. The initiative ensures that the period of military service is not a time of halted education but a chance for individuals to secure a better future.
The project aims to allow soldiers to fulfill their national duty while advancing their knowledge. Upon discharge, soldiers will possess experience, discipline, and educational qualifications that aid further studies or career pursuits. The program offers flexible learning formats, including on-site, online, or blended learning, aligning with military missions. This step marks enhanced cooperation between educational and security agencies, aiming to improve military personnel's quality of life through education, discipline, responsibility, and essential skill development for future careers.
