SAT Projects 40 Billion Baht Economic Value for Thai Sports Industry in 2025

Bangkok: The Governor of the Sports Authority of Thailand is pleased with the overall picture of the sports industry in 2025, projecting economic value of 40 billion baht. World-class sporting events are also expected to generate further revenue for the sports industry. Looking ahead to 2026, the SAT plans to promote world-class events and continue supporting the sports industry to further stimulate the country’s economy.

According to Thai News Agency, Dr. Kongsak Yodmani, Governor of the Sports Authority of Thailand (SAT), revealed an overview of the Thai sports industry in 2025, stating that the target for economic growth in the sports sector is a 10% annual growth rate. Throughout 2025, sports are projected to generate over 40 billion baht in economic value. The SAT has consistently collaborated with sports associations, the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT), and various private sector entities. This figure is considered satisfactory given the current economic conditions.

The Governor emphasized that even with a weak economy, sporting events can thrive. Thailand has hosted many world-class sporting events in the past, including the Women’s Volleyball World Championship, the Jet Ski World Cup, the Amazing Thailand Marathon, internationally standardized trail running events, and Muay Thai competitions. These events not only attract tourists worldwide but also boost industries such as apparel, footwear, sporting goods, and related services. Muay Thai, in particular, has seen its equipment and attire adapted into fashion.

Dr. Kongsak further stated that in 2026, the SAT will focus on promoting mass sports such as marathon running and Muay Thai, which generate significant value for Thailand. There may be adjustments to the plan to support other sports to increase diversity and distribute support to different regions, aligning with the government’s policy of using sports to stimulate the national economy.

In 2026, Thailand will host world-class events, starting with the MotoGP opening race of the 2026 season in February, followed by a trail running event in Yala province, and the 2026 Women’s Volleyball Nations League, where Thailand will host the second leg in June. Numerous other competitions from various sports associations will also be supported to revitalize Thai sports.
