Bangkok: Senator Somphan Palasak from Amnat Charoen has announced his intention to file a police report against Yingcheep Atchanon, following allegations regarding his qualifications as a senator. Yingcheep, director of the Internet Law for the People Project (iLaw), accused Senator Somphan and Senator Daeng Kongma of lacking the necessary qualifications to serve as Senators in Group 10.
According to Thai News Agency, Senator Somphan emphasized that the Election Commission had previously dismissed these allegations over two years ago. He referred to the EC's ruling No. 249/2567, which cleared Senator Daeng Kongma of similar accusations, confirming her ten years of relevant experience. Likewise, ruling No. 17/2568 dismissed the complaint against Senator Somphan, affirming his qualifications and experience in his field.
Senator Somphan expressed surprise at Yingcheep's interpretation of "Group 10 Senators" as owners of large businesses, pointing out that the term refers to those engaged in businesses other than small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) as defined by law. He urged Yingcheep, as a lawyer, to respect the Election Commission's final ruling and refrain from spreading misinformation that could lead to public confusion and suspicion.
Both Senator Somphan and Senator Daeng are preparing to take legal action against Yingcheep for damaging their reputations. Despite having been cleared by the Election Commission, the allegations continue to harm their public image. Senator Somphan encouraged Yingcheep to verify facts before making public accusations and advised against pursuing further legal actions that could result in additional charges.
