Sergeant Major’s Heroic Organ Donation Saves Five Lives

Surat Thani: The commendable actions of ‘Sergeant Big’, Commander of the Crime Prevention and Suppression Unit at Surat Thani City Police Station, have drawn widespread praise after he donated his organs to save five lives. Tragically, Sergeant Big was killed by a pickup truck while assisting a motorist with a broken motorcycle chain.

According to Thai News Agency, the online community has expressed both sorrow and admiration for the sacrifice of Pol. Sgt. Maj. Charoenphon Niamniyom, affectionately known as Sergeant Big. Serving as a patrol officer at the Bang Yai Public Service Unit, he met with a fatal accident on the bypass road in Makham Tia Subdistrict, Surat Thani City District, on the night of January 27.

The Thai Red Cross Society highlighted Sergeant Big’s noble gesture through their social media, stating, “The last great act of merit, Pol. Sgt. Maj. Charoenphon Niamniyom, or ‘Sergeant Big’, age 35, Commander of the Crime Prevention and Suppression Unit, Surat Thani City Police Station, died while on duty, donated organs and eyes, giving new life to many lives.” After being diagnosed with brain death, his family donated his liver, kidneys, heart valves, and eyes to the Thai Red Cross Society.

In response to the incident, the National Police Chief expressed condolences to Sergeant Big’s family, recognizing his dedication to duty and his final act of generosity. The Chief praised his wife for honoring his wishes to donate his organs. The family is expected to receive financial assistance and benefits, including a salary increase and a posthumous promotion to Pol. Lt.
