Chengdu: Sichuan is witnessing a significant surge in Thai tourists, highlighted by the recent comments of Mr. Sek Nopthaisong, Consul-General of Thailand in Chengdu. During his attendance at the 2026 Chinese New Year Gala in the city, Mr. Sek emphasized the planned exchanges between Thailand and Chengdu for 2025, with a particular focus on enhancing people-to-people interactions. The previous year saw over 389,000 Thai tourists visiting Sichuan Province.
According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Sek's visit to Coclair Medical Device Co., Ltd. and the Sichuan Province Manufacturing Industry Digital and Intelligent Transformation Platform showcased Chengdu's advancements in technological innovation. These developments have enhanced production efficiency through a focus on green and low-carbon initiatives.
With 2025 marking the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Thailand and China, Mr. Sek highlighted ongoing progress in economic and trade cooperation, as well as cultural and educational exchanges between Thailand and Sichuan Province. A noteworthy achievement is the establishment of the first official Thai language proficiency test center in Sichuan at a university in Chengdu, promoting language learning and exchange.
Chengdu and Sichuan Province are becoming increasingly popular among Thai tourists, particularly the IFS shopping district, which has become a favored destination. Mr. Sek encouraged more Thai visitors to explore Sichuan's rich history and culture, especially the renowned Sanxingdui archaeological site, further strengthening the ties between the two regions.
