Bangkok: Around the world, one million plastic bottles are purchased every minute. By using a reusable water bottle, you could prevent an average of 156 plastic bottles from filling our oceans annually. Every year, 15 million tons of plastic enter the sea at a minimum. Experts predict that plastic will outweigh fish in the ocean by 2050 unless a change is made.
According to Thai News Agency, Americans use an average of 365 plastic bags per person per year. Millions of animals, including birds, fish, and other marine organisms, are killed by plastics every year. However, alternatives such as paper, LDPE, non-woven PP, and cotton bags should be reused at least 3, 4, 11, and 131 times respectively to ensure they have a lower global warming potential than conventional HDPE carrier bags that are not reused.
Sustainability is not about perfection but about consistency. The everyday items we carry quietly reshape the future of the planet. By starting small, reusing smarter, and turning daily habits into meaningful change, individuals can contribute significantly to environmental sustainability.
