Bangkok: The Social Telecare AI platform is set to upgrade Somdej Phra Sangkharach Hospital into a Smart Hospital, thanks to a pioneering initiative by the Thai Health Promotion Foundation (ThaiHPF) and the Thai Association of Social Workers. The project, "Applying Artificial Intelligence to Develop a Platform for Social Telecare (PST) for Social Care for Patients, Families, and Communities with the 'School.Buddy' System in Primary Healthcare," was unveiled at a press conference held at the hospital.
According to Thai News Agency, the project aims to revolutionize the primary healthcare system with the integration of artificial intelligence (AI). Dr. Khanittha Buranapansak, representing the Thai Medical Social Workers Association, highlighted the project's objectives to create a seamless ecosystem for social and healthcare services. The PST AI system intends to serve as a screening assistant, focusing on five "SMART" components: Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, and Timely. These components aim to streamline operations, reduce paperwork, and allow social workers to concentrate on providing emotional support and care.
Dr. Jiraphat Kalyanaphotphon, Director of Somdej Phra Sangkharaj 17th Hospital, stressed the importance of connecting digital systems between the hospital and the community. By addressing social inequalities and caregiver shortages, the hospital aims to provide sustainable treatment. The Social Telecare platform will facilitate appointment bookings from home and enhance doctors' access to patient data, thus reducing wait times and improving service efficiency.
Mr. Wachara Amsiri from Thammasat University, who developed the PST system, noted the potential of AI integration to elevate social services. However, he cautioned that technology must be used ethically and with an understanding of social contexts to ensure the best outcomes for patients. The development of a strong social care system could lead to broader improvements in medical care.
Ms. Amornrat Sunthornwipat, a social worker, expressed optimism about the platform, anticipating improved patient care efficiency and greater accessibility to services. She believes the platform will enable healthcare professionals to deliver comprehensive and uninterrupted care to the public.
